Boat house is almost finished

The boat house and dock are almost finished.  AJ still needs to do some sanding and finishing of the surfaces to remove splinters and rough edges, and he needs to hang the boat lift, which was delivered yesterday.  He will also run water and electric to the dock, and hang some lights and stuff.

This is looking at the boat house from the road.  The high roof is for teh big boat, the lower section covers the main deck and the small slip.

Framing the main floor

Well, after some starts and stops, the walls of the main floor are taking shape.  I had to go over on Tuesday, 8-21, to make some decisions about adjusting the stairs, and took these pix.  The interior walls are framed, but I didn't take any pics.  We have changed the second floor joists, so I don't know when they will be available, but when they come in they should begin framing the second story.

Maggie is working on choosing plumbing fixtures, flooring, counters and all that kinda stuff.

8-12 Progress: House Framing and Dock

We passed by the building site on Sunday 8-12 to see what's gone up in the last week, and here are the results:

The main beams are all in place, and joist hangers installed.  They've started installing the floor joists, which are actually small truss units.

The dock and boat house has come a long way recently.  This is a shot of the big boat slip and roof structure.

Eventually, all this dock area and slips will be covered, but it's not there yet.

By the way, the bait fish activity in the bayou was crazy, and where there's bait, the game fish usually follow.  I hope to post more reports on that subject in the future.

Construction begins on the dock and boat house

I met with the waterfront contractor, AJ, on Saturday 8-4, to see about how high to make the roof that he will build over the main boat slip.  We will alos have a roof over the main deck section, and over the small boat slip.  I brought my boat so we could see how it fits in the slip and how to build the roof around the t-top of the boat, so it can go up as high as possible in case of high tides.

View from the street, looking toward the water and dock area.  The roofs will go on to of the tall piles, higher over the big slip, and lower over the main deck and small slip.

Slab poured and Framing has started...

After some delays due to rain and inspections, the slab was poured on Tuesday 7-31, and framing began Thursday 8-2.  The first part of framing is to get the main floor beams installed, which is no small feat.  They have to be lifted into place by a forklift.

My freind Paul and I made a trip on Saturday, 8-4, ( Happy B-day Amy!), to see this and meet the waterfront contractor, AJ.

Here's the view from the street - now there is wood on top of the columns.

Here's how they prep the beams before raising them:
